Our Ambassadors

Danny Williams

Heavy Weight Boxing Champion

– In Danny’s amateur career, he won a bronze medal at the 1993 European Championship which was in the 91k/kg/201Ibs weight
– In 1994, he went on to win a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in the super heavyweight level
– He then went on to win a gold medal at the 1994 multi-nations tournament hosted in Liverpool
– Williams turned professional in 1995 where he knocked out Vance Ideans in the second round
– Williams knocked out Mark Potter for the Commonwealth and British titles, despite suffering a dislocated arm
– Williams has had the likes of Don King and Frank warren as his promoters
– Arguably his most famous fight was against former World Champion Mike Tyson in USA, 2004. He managed to knock Mike Tyson out in the fourth round

Salma Bi

First Muslim Women Cricketer

– Salma made history as the first ever Muslim county cricketer to represent Worcestershire
– She also represents a multitude of clubs including Warwickshire, Marelybone and Tamworth
– A coach who also delivers sessions and a sports event organiser creating opportunities for women all across the UK
– Hosted First Ever Women Futsal Marathon 10-Hour Record 2012
– Asian Women of Achievement Inaugural Sports Award Winner of 2012
– Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation Ambassador Awards Runner-Up 2012
– Hosted Women’s Indoor T10 Criket World Cup 2013

Rory (Musa) Mcleod

First Black World Snooker Player

– McLeod is of Jamaican parentage and is the only black professional snooker player currently
– He first played snooker seriously at the Embassy Club in Wellingborough at thirteen. He was also talented schoolboy footballer
– He became Muslim in early 2004
– He spent some time in Qatar, where he coached their national snooker team
– McLeod has reached the last 16 of five ranking tournaments
– He qualified for the 2008 UK Championship where he played Ronnie O’Sullivan
– Later in the season he defeated Ian McCulloch to qualify for the World Championship for the first time in 2009, becoming the first black player to have done so
– McLeod qualified for the World Snooker Championship for the second time in 2011, and was drawn against seeded player Ricky Walden in the first round. McLeod won the match 10-6 to to set up a second-round with world no.1 John Higgins
– McLeod was ultimately defeated by the eventual champion John Higgins 13-7 in the second round

Abdul Buhari

Muslim Discus Thrower

– Abdul is a British athlete who competes in the discus throw
– He was born in Nigeria
– Buhari is a member of the Newham and Essex Beagles club and is coached by Mark Wiseman
– He works two days a week in the City of London, in operations support for investment bank Credit Suisse
– Buhari missed the 2010 Commonwealth Games due to injury
– In 2011 he set a new personal best distance of 65.44 metres (214.7 ft)
– He won the UK Trials and Championships with a throw of 63.32 metres (207.7 ft), qualifying for the 2011 World Championships, held in Daegu, South Korea
– Buhari was selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the men’s discus alongside compatriots Lawrence Okoye and Brett Morse

Dr Zafar Iqbal

Head of Medicine for Liverpool FC

– Dr Zafar Iqbal qualified as a doctor at the St Bartholomews and Royal London School of Medicine in 1999 and went on to complete an MSC in sports and exercise medicine in 2005
– Dr Iqbal was a team doctor at Leyton Orient FC, Tottenham Hotspur and then in 2010 at Liverpool FC
– In 2012 he was appointed as the Head of Sports Medicine at Liverpool FC and has overall responsibility for the Medical Welfare of all the players
– He has held the position of Chairman of the FA Medical Society since 2006 and writes and lectures extensively on various aspects of Sports Medicine
– Dr Iqbal uses his position to support various health campaigns and charities including most recently a national Defibrillator campaign with Oliver King Foundation and the ‘Get up Get moving’ School physical activity program
– Dr Iqbal states to MSC: “Practicing Islam helps and guides me in my personal and professional life due to the commitment, discipline and hard work required”

Saqlain Mushtaq

The Inventor of ‘Doosra’ For Pakistan Cricket Team

– Saqlain Mushtaq is a Pakistani cricketer, known for pioneering the ‘doosra’, which he employed to great effect during his career
– Saqlain played 49 Test matches and 169 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan, between 1995 and 2004
– He took 208 Test and 288 ODIs wickets and also scored a Test Match century against New Zealand in March 2001
– Saqlain was the quickest bowler in history of ODI to reach 100 wickets
– His faith plays a major part in his life and career
– He has consulted and coached some of the world’s most prominent cricket clubs and players

Mateen Noray

A Passionate & Talented Blind Footballer

– Mateen is a blind footballer whose passion and strong faith has given him the ability to excel in his sport
– He started playing at the age of four and lost his sight at the age of eight
– Mateen has proudly represented England and played against Germany in 2013
– He aims to be a regular for the national team as well as his local side in Leicester
– He believes his drive, dedication, and faith have fulfilled his dreams to be a footballer
– Mateen has promoted the game of football at local schools in Leicester and has inspired many children about breaking down barriers to achieve their goals

Sohail Rehman

A Passionate & Talented Disabled Football Coach

– Sohail is the first wheelchair-bound, fully qualified football coach in the world
– He suffers from a disability called Spinal Muscular Atrophy which he was diagnosed with in his teenage years
– At the age of 16, through his determination and love for football, he decided to complete his coaching badges doing his Level 1 and 2 before going on to coach his local club’s under-10 team
– In 2012, Sohail opened the organisation Class on Grass
– It is a cheme to develop young players in a friendly and focused way
– Sohail is a member of the Manchester united Disabled Supporters’ Association
– Due to his amazing work he was contacted by none other than Sir Alex Ferguson congratulating him on his achievements

Future Champions

Haroon Khan

A Promising Boxer Following in the Footsteps of Older Brother

– He is the younger brother of former WBA and IBF World Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan and is the first cousin of English cricketer SajidMahmood
– Haroon took up boxing through watching his older brother prevail at the sport as a youngster
– Khan has previously won the Junior ABA Championships once and Junior Four Nations Challenge twice
– The highlight of his Amateur career came when he qualified for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi following a defeat over Tanzanian boxer Sunday Elias in the third round
– Khan debuted at Super Flyweight and is currently coached by Oliver Harrison

Imran Qureshi

A Young & Thriving Athletics Future Champion

– Imran has competed at English Schools Championships two times in the Long Jump finishing 4th in July 2012 at the    under-15 level and 10th in 2013 at the bottom year of the under-17 age group
– Imran’s other honours include getting a silver and bronze medal at the English Championships at under-15 level,    receiving the ‘Triple A’ standard which is the highest standards at under-15
– He won the Midland Championships in the Long Jump twice in a row – one of them being his debut Midland    Championship
– Furthermore, he has won County Schools and District Schools three times in a row, as well as winning three times    consecutively at the Young Athletes Leagues (YAL) in the Long Jump
– Qureshi also participates in other events apart from Long Jump, such as Running
– He came 2nd at the South-West Schools for the multi-events which indicates he has great potential to improve

Saddiqa Shan

A Determined Young & Enthusiastic Ladies Footballer

– Saddiqa has represented West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City football clubs
– In her early years she trialled for Aston Villa’s under-11 squad
– After a spell away from the game, Saddiqa returned in 2008 and made history by becoming the first ever Asian female to join West Midlands Regional League Premier Division team Solihull Ladies
– Aged 19, she was offered a scholarship in America with First Point USA
– Currently studying at Coventry Univeristy she also represents the ladies first team
– She also works at the Warwickshire County Cricket Club
